FAQ

Which places are covered?

IPMA publishes city forecasts for 35 locations: the 18 mainland district capitals plus a few extra towns (Guimarães, Loulé, Portimão, Sagres, Sines, Penhas Douradas), Funchal and Porto Santo, and the main town of each Azorean island. Ask for the nearest one; the connector matches names without accents. Fire risk covers all 278 mainland municipalities.

How fresh is the data?

IPMA runs its forecast models twice a day (00 and 12 UTC, published around 10:00 and 20:00) and refreshes the files hourly; warnings and earthquakes are updated hourly. Each answer includes IPMA's update timestamp.

Is this an official service?

The data comes straight from IPMA's public open-data API (api.ipma.pt). The connector is an independent client, not affiliated with IPMA.

What time zone are the times in?

IPMA publishes forecast and warning times in UTC (same as mainland winter time; add one hour in summer, subtract one in the Azores in winter). Earthquake times are shown in your configured timezone, with the UTC value in the JSON output.
