Requirements

FAQ

Where does the data come from?

From the open-source date-holidays rule set (holiday data CC BY-SA 3.0, compiled from Wikipedia and official sources), with OpenJack corrections. The rules are evaluated inside the connector, so no external API is called.

Does it cover regional and municipal holidays?

Regional holidays for most federal and regional countries (German states, Spanish communities, US states, UK nations, Brazilian states, Swiss cantons...). For Portugal it includes Açores, Madeira and the municipal holidays of 15 district capitals (Lisboa, Porto, Coimbra, Funchal...). Other municipal holidays are not included.

What do the holiday types mean?

public: statutory day off; bank: banks closed; optional: commonly granted but not mandatory (e.g. Carnaval in Portugal); school: schools closed; observance: marked but a normal working day. Business-day calculations count only public holidays unless you ask for more.

What about one-off holidays?

Rule-based holidays are always computed correctly; one-off holidays announced by a government (a royal event, an election day) appear only once they are added to the rules. Check the official calendar for anything legally binding.

Which weekend does it use?

Saturday and Sunday, or Friday and Saturday in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Israel and Egypt. You can set any weekend, including none.
