Banco de Portugal

Official Banco de Portugal statistics in Claude: mortgage and deposit rates, Euribor, bank credit, public debt, current account and more.

Reads BPstat, the open statistics portal of Banco de Portugal, the country's central bank. Ask for the latest interest rate on new mortgages or business loans, deposit rates, Euribor, the stock and growth of bank lending to households and companies, the banks' non-performing loans ratio, the current account balance, general government debt, the household saving rate, the house price index or the Portuguese 10-year bond yield. Any of BPstat's series can be found by keyword in English or Portuguese and read as a time series, with the change from the previous period and from a year earlier. Public data, no credentials.

Requirements

FAQ

Where does the data come from?

From the BPstat Data API of Banco de Portugal (bpstat.bportugal.pt), the official source for Portuguese monetary, financial and external statistics. The connector is an independent client: it does not change, estimate or store any value, and every answer cites Banco de Portugal as the source.

Can I use the figures commercially?

Banco de Portugal's legal notice for BPstat allows free use of the information, provided it is reproduced accurately, Banco de Portugal is cited as the source, and any modification is stated. Check the current notice on bpstat.bportugal.pt before publishing.

Can it reach every BPstat series?

Yes, any series can be read by its id (the number in bpstat.bportugal.pt/serie/<id>). BPstat has no keyword search in its API, so the connector searches the curated list and scans the series labels of the best-matching domains, up to about 1,400 series per search; for very large domains such as the balance of payments, pass the domain id and a precise query, preferably in Portuguese, where labels are more descriptive.

How are changes calculated?

Against the previous observation and against the same period one year earlier. Rates and percentages are compared in percentage points; amounts in euros show the absolute and the percentage change. Daily series are compared with the nearest earlier trading day a year before.

Are there usage limits?

BPstat rate-limits requests without publishing exact limits; when it answers HTTP 429 the connector tells you to wait a few minutes. Up to 20 series fit in one bportugal_latest call and up to 400 observations in one series call.
