Brazil Public Data

Official Brazilian statistics, open data and public contracts in Claude: IBGE, Banco Central, dados.gov.br and PNCP.

Reads Brazil's official public data live. Statistics from IBGE (SIDRA tables: IPCA inflation, unemployment, GDP, population, earnings, by state or municipality) and the Banco Central SGS time series (Selic, exchange rates, credit, house prices), with a verified list of headline indicators. Searches the dados.gov.br and Banco Central open data catalogues and previews the first rows of CSV or JSON files. Searches public contracts and tenders still open for bids on PNCP, the national procurement portal for federal, state and municipal bodies, opens any record with its items and documents, and totals spending by buyer or supplier. Accepts questions in Portuguese or English. Two optional free keys unlock dados.gov.br search and the Portal da Transparência; everything else works without credentials.

Requirements

FAQ

Which sources does it use?

IBGE's SIDRA API (apisidra.ibge.gov.br), the Banco Central SGS time-series API and its open data catalogue (dadosabertos.bcb.gov.br), the dados.gov.br catalogue API, PNCP (pncp.gov.br: its search index, consulta API and record API) and, with a key, the Portal da Transparência API. Every call goes to the source; nothing is cached or stored.

Do I need any credentials?

No. Statistics, the Banco Central catalogue, file previews and all PNCP procurement tools are keyless. dados.gov.br requires a free token for catalogue search (sign in with gov.br, Minha Conta), and the Portal da Transparência requires a free key sent by e-mail. Without them those tools explain how to get one.

How far back and how complete is procurement data?

PNCP is mandatory under Law 14.133/2021 and covers federal, state and municipal bodies, mostly from 2021-2023 onwards. Summaries read up to 5,000 contracts and say when results are truncated; buyer queries use PNCP's official API in 365-day windows (up to 3 years).

Can it read whole datasets?

Previews stream at most 2 MB of a CSV or JSON file and return the first rows, so large national files are sampled, not loaded. ZIP, PDF and Excel files cannot be previewed; download them from the link.

Can I reuse the data commercially?

Brazilian federal open data is published under the Open Data Policy (Decree 8,777/2016) for free reuse with attribution; the Banco Central catalogue uses ODbL and each dados.gov.br dataset states its own licence, which the connector shows. IBGE asks that the source be cited. The connector is an independent client, not affiliated with any of these bodies.
