France Public Data

Official French statistics, the national open data portal and public procurement in Claude: INSEE, data.gouv.fr, BOAMP and DECP.

Three official French sources in one connector. Statistics from INSEE: inflation, unemployment, GDP, population, wages and the SMIC, house prices, the rent reference index (IRL), business failures and births, plus any of INSEE's macro-economic series and local data for every commune, département and région. The national open data portal data.gouv.fr: search tens of thousands of datasets by keyword, publisher, format and licence, open a dataset and read the first rows of its CSV or JSON files. Public procurement: open calls for tenders from the BOAMP, awarded contracts from the DECP with buyer and supplier SIRET numbers and amounts, and spend totals per buyer or supplier. Ask in English or French. Public data under the Licence Ouverte, fetched live on every call, no credentials needed.

Requirements

FAQ

Which sources does it use?

INSEE's public APIs on api.insee.fr (the macro-economic database BDM and the Melodi local-data API), geo.api.gouv.fr to turn place names into official codes, the data.gouv.fr catalogue and its tabular API, the BOAMP published by DILA on its Opendatasoft portal, and the DECP awarded-contract data consolidated daily by decp.info and published on data.gouv.fr. All are official, keyless and free.

Can I use the data commercially?

INSEE, BOAMP and DECP data are published under the Licence Ouverte / Etalab 2.0, which allows commercial reuse with attribution of the source and the date of last update. Each data.gouv.fr dataset has its own licence; the connector shows it, and flags datasets without one.

How large a file can it preview?

Files indexed by data.gouv.fr's tabular API (most CSV and Excel files) are read page by page with filters, whatever their size. Other CSV files are streamed and the download stops as soon as the requested rows are read (at most 2 MB). JSON is read whole only up to 5 MB. Nothing is stored.

How complete are the procurement figures?

The DECP must list every French public contract of 40,000 EUR or more, but buyers publish with delays and some omit supplier names. Amounts are the declared value excluding VAT; framework agreements count at their ceiling, and obvious outliers are excluded from totals. Spend totals are exact over all matching contracts; the ranking reads up to 1,200 groups and says when it is truncated. DECP queries can take 10 to 60 seconds.

Is this an official service?

No. The connector is an independent client of public APIs, not affiliated with INSEE, Etalab, DILA or decp.info.
