Germany Public Data

Official German statistics, the national open data portal and public contracts and tenders in Claude.

One connector for German public data. Headline statistics (inflation, unemployment, GDP, wages, house prices, employment) from the Bundesbank time series database, and search across every Destatis GENESIS table, with table data when you add a free GENESIS token. GovData, the national open data portal: search federal, state and city datasets, open their resources and preview the first rows of CSV or JSON files without downloading them. Public procurement from the federal Bekanntmachungsservice: open tenders with deadlines, awarded contracts with winners and values, full notices, and top-supplier or spend summaries for a buyer or a supplier. Works in German and English.

FAQ

Where does the data come from?

Statistics come from Destatis GENESIS-Online and from the Deutsche Bundesbank time series database, which re-publishes Destatis and Federal Employment Agency figures. Open data comes from GovData (govdata.de), the portal of the federal government, states and municipalities. Procurement data comes from the Bekanntmachungsservice / Datenservice Öffentlicher Einkauf (oeffentlichevergabe.de), the national service every eForms notice of German public buyers passes through. The connector is an independent client, not affiliated with these institutions.

Do I need a GENESIS account?

Only to read Destatis GENESIS tables. Searching GENESIS, the curated headline indicators (served by the Bundesbank), GovData and procurement all work without credentials. A GENESIS account is free: register at www-genesis.destatis.de, copy the API token from your profile and paste it on the connect page.

Can I reuse the data commercially?

Destatis data is under the Datenlizenz Deutschland – Namensnennung 2.0 (attribution required), Bundesbank statistics may be reused with the source named, procurement notices are published under CC0, and each GovData dataset shows its own licence (most are Datenlizenz Deutschland or Creative Commons; check before reusing).

Why are procurement searches slower than the other tools?

The Bekanntmachungsservice has no search API: it publishes one export file per day. The connector reads those files day by day, keeps only the matching notices and stores nothing. Expect about 20–25 seconds per six days scanned; searches cover the last 7 days by default and at most 31 days per call, and the answer says when a range was cut.

How large a file can be previewed?

CSV files of any size: the connector streams the file and stops as soon as it has the rows you asked for (at most 3 MB are read). JSON files must be at most 3 MB because they are parsed whole. Excel, ZIP, PDF and map services are not previewed; you get the download link instead.

Are all German tenders covered?

All notices published through the national Bekanntmachungsservice, which includes every EU-threshold notice of German contracting authorities and a growing share of national (below-threshold) ones. Some state platforms publish small national tenders only on their own portals. Award values are missing when the buyer withheld them; summaries say how many.
