Mexico Public Data

Mexican official statistics, the national open data portal and federal public contracts in Claude.

One connector for Mexican public data. Statistics from INEGI and Banco de México: headline and core inflation, unemployment, GDP and IGAE, population by state and municipality, the minimum wage, the peso–dollar FIX rate, the Banxico policy rate, TIIE and UDIS, with any other INEGI or Banxico series by id. The national open data portal datos.gob.mx: search datasets by keyword, publisher and format, list their files and preview the first rows of CSV and JSON resources without downloading them. Federal public procurement from the Plataforma Digital Nacional: search over a million awarded procedures (2015–2021) by buyer, supplier, tax id (RFC), procedure type and category, open any procedure, and total spend by supplier or buyer. Queries work in Spanish or English. Open data and contracts need no credentials; statistics need free INEGI and/or Banxico tokens.

Requirements

FAQ

Do I need any credentials?

No for open data and procurement. INEGI and Banco de México require a free personal token for their APIs: INEGI's is requested on inegi.org.mx (Desarrolladores, API de Indicadores) with a name and email, Banxico's on banxico.org.mx/SieAPIRest with an email. Add either, both or none when connecting; statistics tools without their token say what to do and are not charged.

How recent are the procurement data?

The only public procurement API for the federal government is the Plataforma Digital Nacional, which holds CompraNet's open contracting releases from 2015 to 2021 (over a million procedures). Compras MX, the platform used since 2022, publishes its search behind a reCAPTCHA and has no public API, so current open tenders and post-2021 awards are not available.

Why does datos.gob.mx sometimes refuse requests?

The portal and its file host sit behind a firewall that blocks many requests from outside Mexico. When that happens the tool says so; requests routed from Mexico normally work. The connector stores nothing: every preview reads only the rows it needs, stops early on large files, and limits JSON files to 10 MB.

Which indicators are included?

A curated list checked against the live services: inflation (headline, core, monthly, CPI index), unemployment, labour force, GDP and GDP growth, IGAE, population, minimum wage, peso–dollar FIX, policy rate, TIIE 28, UDIS and the CPI housing component. Mexico has no house price index available through an API (SHF publishes it as files). Any other INEGI or Banxico series works by its id.

What licences apply?

INEGI data are under INEGI's free use terms and datos.gob.mx datasets mostly under CC BY 4.0 or Mexico's Términos de Libre Uso, all allowing commercial reuse with attribution. Banxico asks users to cite it as the source. Procurement data are public government records republished by SESNA. Always cite the source shown in each answer.
